Drift Association Updates
September 2, 2009
Volume 1, Issue 4
The month of August has turned out to be a very busy month for Drift Association. Every weekend we had an event to host or attend. We kicked off the month by taking a road trip to support Megan Racing’s and Team Drift Association’s driver, Cyrus Martinez as he traveled up to Seattle, WA to compete in a Pro Am qualifier. Congratulations to Cyrus on placing 1st! Good luck at nationals! (Photo from http://www.evergreendrift.com/)
Keeping busy the second weekend in a row, on August 15th Drift Association helped out Main Stream Productions with their last annual Nisei Week Showoff. For the past 15 years Showoff has been known for bringing out the best cars from import scene. It is unfortunate to see this ‘OG’ car show come to an end. Thank you to Main Stream Productions for making us apart of the final show.
On August 16th, we brought back the much anticipated Drift Day Competition. The competition catered towards all driving levels. However, the drivers unanimously voted to by-pass the donut and figure 8 sections and skip to the 2nd and 3rd gear courses. Thank you to the judges Hiro Sumida, Michael Essa, Quoc Ly, Taka Aono, and Yoshie Shuyama for showing your support and offering drivers a chance to better their drifting skills.
Congratulations to the winners:
2nd Gear Course:
1. Evan Dunham
2. Seth Pressley
3. Alex Villareal
Over All:
1. Tak Machida
2. JP Mendoza
3. Rene – CX Racing
In addition to Drift Day Comp, we also held Drift 101. Congratulations to our graduating August Drift 101 students.
If you missed Nisei Week Showoff, car show enthusiasts received a second chance to attend during the weekend of the Nisei Week Carnival. Main Stream Productions was in action a second weekend in a row by hosting the Mega Matsuri Show on Saturday, August 22nd. The name may be different and come with a few added twists, but it still brought the same great quality cars and show style.
With no chance to catch our breath, Drift Association was off to Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, CA to host a two day grip event at Streets of Willow. Saturday, August 29th was a day of fun and relaxation. Thank you to the members of AE86 Nights, who once again hooked up with us to put on an event. In addition, we had a special group of drivers come out. Ben Dai and friends came out to celebrate their friend, Roger Oda’s bachelor party. The group had a private run group instructed by Taka Aono and Hiro Sumida. (Congratulations Roger!) On Sunday, August 30th, Industry Day brought out individuals from all over the automotive industry for an exclusive grip event. A special thanks to Steve Lim and Edward Lee from Mackin Industries, Danny Chang and Richard Tang from S.I.X. Autoworks for putting on a great event and bringing the industry together.
Upcoming events:
September 19: Route 66 Rendezvous Burn Out Contest
October 16-17: Formula D Irwindale and ProAm Qualifier
