Drift Association Updates V1 Issue 3

July's Update Release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Drift Association Updates
July 21, 2009
Volume 1, Issue 3

For the month of July, Drift Association celebrated Independence Day with the Megan Racing drift competition at National Orange Show in San Bernardino, CA. Providing traditional judging style by professional drifters (Taka Aono, Hiro Sumida, Daijiro Yoshihara) and offering cash prizes, and an opportunity for grassroots drivers to show what they’ve got, Megan Racing hosted a successful competition.

Congratulations to the winners:
1st Place – Matt Powers
2nd Place – Michael Essa
3rd Place – Tommy Roberts

Sunday, July 5th, we hosted a private Formula D practice event at El Toro. Amongst the attendees were pro drivers: Chris Forsberg, Taka Aono, Justin Pawlak, and Carl Rydquist. Taka set up a high speed 4th gear course to help the drivers prepare for Formula D, Las Vegas. We also welcomed back the AE86 Nights group who ran a fun autoX course, also created by Taka. In addition, class was in session over at the Drift 101 section. Congratulations to graduating students: Steven Hernandez and Gilberto Espinosa.

Coming up: August is already gearing up to be a busy month for us. Since 1994 many car enthusiasts have attended Nisei Week Showoff. After hosting Nisei Week Showoff for the past 15 years, Main Stream Productions is announcing that this year’s could be the last. Please come out and show your support. For a flyer, please visit www.showoffcafe.com. In addition to the show, take a look into Japanese culture by visiting the festival and sampling great food.

On Sunday, August 16th, we are bringing back Drift Day Competition! It has been a couple years since there has been an “official” drift day competition. This competition has some new twists added to it. We would like to extend the competition to cater towards both beginner and advanced drivers. To sign up or for more information please email Kat T. at kat@ driftday.com.

On the Saturday August 29th, Drift Association will be switching their drift tires for some grip tires as we host a grip event at Streets at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, CA. Sunday, August 30th, we will be staffing for an exclusive automotive industry grip event hosted by Industry Day and Mackin Industries.

Media: In the next upcoming issues of Modified magazine, keep an eye out for an article on Drift 101.
